Greetings! Although summer is only about to begin, the hot and humid days are here, along with storms off and on. I have still been walking each morning – this morning I again took the longer route past the nearby school – it gives me some new scenery and is a pleasant way to go. When I got back, after resting, I trimmed some bushes. I talked to Marisa yesterday morning: she has been suffering with pneumonia, and is very ill; she has another doctor appointment tomorrow. Please pray for her. Tess took her state examination for her medical assistant program yesterday morning – she had a struggle to get all of the arrangements completed. Now she is awaiting the results. Samuel has moved back home to Crane for the summer; he has spent the last two nights here, and then has gone off to work at CPO here in Springfield. And otherwise life continues to go on as usual… Here’s a word for today: THE BLESSING OF MELCHIZEDEK Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all. Genesis 14:18-20 Among those who Abram met after he had defeated the enemies of Sodom and rescued Lot was Melchizedek, the King of Salem. He was a mysterious character, who was otherwise unknown. He seemed to have appeared in a time of need, blessed Abram, and received a tithe from Abram, and disappeared from the scene (except for a brief reference in Hebrews). In a real sense he is a type of Christ – a kingly priest, highly unusual for that time, who appeared on the scene with a blessing, and left after his work was done, bearing with him the tithe of Abram and the obvious approval of God.
