Greetings Canada! Receive your SPECIAL INVITATION FROM THE CITY OF BARRIE! RHYTHM FEST invites you to a magnificent CULTURAL CELEBRATION THIS WEEKEND!!! Yet another reason to drive up that HWY 400 North and enjoy the beautiful weather! Empress Arlanna is a GENEROUS SPONSOR of this Barrie-based event (although regrettably, Empress Arlanna is NOT able to attend this year due to other event obligations); the following message is a PAID ADVERTISEMENT from ARLANNA Communications Inc. VISIT: barrie.ca/rhythmfest Come join us on August 8th at Holly Community Park in Barrie’s south end and August 9th at Heritage Park in Barrie’s scenic downtown waterfront, for a celebration of the universal language of rhythm. Every August, in Central Ontario, on the banks of Lake Simcoe’s beautiful Kempenfelt Bay, the City of Barrie hosts the region’s annual Rhythmfest at Heritage and Holly Community Parks. Rhythmfest is a joyful celebration of the universal language of rhythm and an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have contributed significantly to our rich Rhythm Culture. We invite you to join us every year during the second weekend in August to see, hear, taste and participate interactively with diverse and talented musicians, drummers, dancers, singers and artists. Our specialty vendor offerings and mouth watering culinary delights make Barrie Rhythmfest a celebration that must be experienced. Each year we pay tribute to one or two individuals who have made a difference in Canada’s rhythmic tapestry. Previous honorees include Jim Blackley, Fred Johnson, Archie Alleyne, Ray Reilly and Diane Sanderson. These special tributes offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of Canada’s best and brightest from the world of rhythm come together to celebrate those who have impacted our lives. This year Rhythmfest pays tribute to Esmeralda Enrique founder and director of the Esmeralda Enrique School of Spanish Dance and Earl LaPierre Snr., EarlLaPierre steel pan pioneer and founder of the Afropan Steelband. Barrie Rhythmfest is Canada’s most interactive festival, where everyone gets to participate. If you don’t have an instrument, we will lend you one, and if you don’t know how to play it, we will show you how! Bring your body and willing spirit and learn to dance in one of our amazing dance workshops! Our Friday August 8th evening program at Holly Community Park features an educator’s workshop and a concert in an intimate neighbourhood setting featuring Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company and Jazz/R&B sensation COLDJACK. Our Saturday August 9th main stage, located under the big tent in Heritage Park, features a variety of rhythmic performers from all over the world, including drummers, clinicians, workshop presenters, dancers and instrumentalists including Samba Squad, Messenjah, Irshad Khan, Muhtadi World Drummers, steel pan virtuosos Mark Mosca and Joy Lapps, AfroPan Steel Band and much more. Visit our Children’s stage, where there is always something to engage young minds while providing tons of fun and hands on opportunities to try out instruments and dance movements. The “Just Beat It” drum solo competition sponsored by Music Pro and Headhunters Sticks is a highlight of the festival and has some of the many talented drummers in the region going head to head for a variety of prizes, but mostly for a chance to call themselves Central Ontario’s Best Drummer. Drummers, dancers, food and instrument vendors, await you on the banks of a beautiful bay. We look forward to seeing you at Barrie Rhythmfest, our celebration of Rhythm, our celebration of the world! Be part of it! INFO LINE: 705-739-4299 VISIT: barrie.ca/rhythmfest
