Greetings Gents, My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a Live-Aboard 54 ft steel Yacht which we have had our eyes on for some time.We have done some investigations on her and she was built in Brisbane in 2002 from 8mm below water line chinned steel and 6 mm above the water line. We have had some experience with yachts and sailing, but this girl has a 5LW Gardner marine diesel engine, which has done about 3500 hours since rebuild.It is connected to a velvet drive gearbox, also overhauled , but I am rather curious whether any stokers out there have opinions on the Gardner engines, and whether they are all cracked up to what a number of Trawler men and other boaties state.I know I can get a Machinery survey on her whilst she is out of the water for a overall survey, but feedback from the experienced is invaluable.
