Greetings …. I come in peace …. As I scroll through the numerous birthday wishes …. It is truly a pleasure to see so many people wish me a happy birthday …. Many of you all I have not seen or spoken to in person in a while …. I have always made a practice of using my birthday as a time of reflection, especially considering so many have told me I would not live this long …. This year I was enlighten by how much my life has changed during the past few years, and how many new friends I have made along the way, and how many I have also lost …. Some by natural causes, but most by violence …. Each person that I have had the pleasure of knowing thus far has played an important role in my life, whether they be family members, childhood friends, or even those that I have met here on facebook …. All of you have provided shoulders for me to lean on …. Many of you provided gentle nudges in the right direction when I was confused …. Than it was some of you who provided attentive ears and prudent, (In my Pastor Dixon voice) advice when I was challenged with my old ways of doing things …. In the words of the late NOTORIOUS B.I.G., “Damn right I like the life I live, Cause I went from negative to positive” …. But most of all …. You all filled my life with joy and happiness …. Even some of the “bad experiences” I’ve encountered have worked out in my favor and have provided me with the important lessons of life …. As far as reflecting on my life’s journey …. It astounds me on how much my life has changed in the past few years …. In these past five years alone I have gotten wiser and much more involved in the revitalization and reconstruction of my community, all of which have been important milestones and blessings in my life considering I spent many birthdays in prison …. Inevitably as I have matured and my life has become more and more humbled …. My circle of friends, (Professor Fordham, Professor Hopkins, Lisa, Ebony, Pastor Dixon, Mike, Brandon, Dee Jay Cass, Monica & Ceara, First Lady Vanessa and many, many others has become larger and more closely knit, and I seem to help many of them avoid the trails and tribulation I once encountered …. Because of many of you I feel as though I am more confident, happy, and comfortable with who I am as a person than I have ever been before …. Given the fantastic journey I have been on, and with the continued support of my friends and family ...... I am excited to see what the future has in store for me, but I am more than happy to simply enjoy living in the now, and the many blessings that surround me …. So I say thank you and I hope you have a Happy Kwanzaa and a prosperous new year …. I go now ….. Peace!
