Greetings: Next weekend (October 18 & 19) is the annual Oyster - TopicsExpress

Greetings: Next weekend (October 18 & 19) is the annual Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay. For a variety of reasons, we have found it necessary to make some changes from previous years. The first is with regard to our food booth. The menu will be similar to years past, but this year we have partnered with a private company that will not only prepare the food on site, but will also handle the majority of the sales. That said, and knowing how busy things can get at times, we are looking to supplement their staff with volunteers of our own. The second change is with regard to our own facilities. This year, we are looking for volunteers to help staff the Visitors Center, Yard and Station, to the extent possible. In the past, we have seen a number of people who visit each location during the festival, and we want to ensure we have adequate staffing (in addition to our regular docents who will also be volunteering their time). We will NOT be charging admission, but will instead encourage a donation by visitors. This is where you come in! We are seeking volunteers, for whatever time you may be able to offer, who are willing to represent the museum in a professional and courteous manner at each location. If you are available and willing to lend a hand, please consider the following: 1. Oyster Fest hours are from 11am - 6pm, both days. (Were looking for people from 11 - 5) 2. During these hours, travel to and from each location will be possible by foot or bicycle only. (unless you arrive prior to 10am) 3. The festival operates rain or shine, and regardless of temperature. 4. Traffic for this event is extraordinary. Plan accordingly. Volunteer locations available are as follows: 1. Visitors Center (indoors) 2. Station (indoors, no climate control) 3. Yard (indoor / outdoor, no climate control) 4. Festival Food Booth (outdoor, seafood contact) That all said, if you have any time that you are able to offer, please provide us with the following information at this email address (LIRR35@aol) NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY EVENING: 1. Locations you are willing to staff 2. Hours / Days of availability 3. Cell Phone or other number where we can reach you most times Well put together a schedule to ensure adequate staffing at all locations, to the extent possible. This information will be emailed to you no later than Thursday evening. Please also note that due to the difficulties with transportation and staffing, there will be NO work session this weekend. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to your favorable response with this, our busiest annual fundraiser! Steven Torborg OBRM Trustee
