Greetings, Ok, this is getting real. I admit that I kind of threw the towel in at White Mountain, and its looking like it might have been premature. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I should have known that 40-year old records hold no sway in the 2014 Iditarod! Yesterday I said that Jeff most certainly has the edge on this race. What we dont know, however, is how the 9 1/2 hour pace-push is going to affect him. This is EXACTLY what I was talking about. Well sort of. Okay, not at all. But it COULD have been exactly what I was talking about, and thats what matters. The point is, these dog teams are doing something no dog team has ever done before. It was working great when there were blue skies and fast trails, but then Alaska happened, and its getting crazy. Just in case youre behind the times for some reason, Ill brief you on the Fumor Soup (a combination of facts and rumors that Ive blended together and simmered down). Jeffs team apparently quit/got lost/stopped just outside of Safety, so Aliy passed him and got to Safety first. She blew through Safety and immediately her team quit/got lost/ stopped also. Five minutes ago Dallas caught sight of Jeff. Until now hes had no idea he was in contention for first. If Dallas was giving it 100% before, I can guarantee you hell be giving it 200% from now on. Four miles down the trail is Aliy. Stopped. I WISH I WAS IN NOME!!!!! Conway Seavey
