FIVE DISPELLED MYTHS ABOUT THE UCLA MSW PROGRAM: *1) MYTH: I won’t be accepted if I don’t do well on the GRE. * TRUTH: If you have a GPA of 3.3 and above, you don’t need to take the GRE! Furthermore, the Department considers every aspect of your application. ** *2) MYTH: UCLA is too expensive.* TRUTH: Many students take advantage of scholarships, stipends, fellowships and grants offered through our department, the Graduate Division, and external sources. *3) MYTH: I can’t balance a full-time program.* TRUTH: There are students in our program with children, part-time jobs, and who commute. It is possible and your classmates will serve as a strong support network.** *4) MYTH: I need certain experience, or I’m unsure if my experience is relevant.* TRUTH: Each applicant’s personal and professional experiences help shape and contribute to their interest in social welfare. Just apply!** *5) MYTH: I don’t know what I can do with an MSW degree.* TRUTH: Come to our event and you will realize you can do many things- from practicing individual therapy to program development to holding a political office.
