Greetings fellow Esseleners There seems to be a sense of discomfort as to why I entertained the idea of a relocation. So I would like to clear out a few things. The issue of a relocation was not a final thing and it will never be a final thing if relocating means more expenses on the part of Students with less amenities as to what we are afforded at Esselen. In so far as entertaining the idea of a relocation, however, it is to the point that WITS cannot always say to us that, with regards to Florence, our safety is beyond their control yet they attempt to find no alternatives within what is in their control. It may seem that perhaps I am advocating for a relocation without considering the implications. I assure you that that is not the case. As incoming Chairperson I do not only, and can never, represent a one sided view, because, I do not only represent a certain group of people that reside at Esselen but I represent everyone. Now this means that I will have to entertain all the conflicting views that will always arise as a result of the differences between the people that reside at Esselen. In an attempt to accommodate everyone therefore it means that in any difficulty that we face as a house I will always have to consider all possible solutions then present them to the house for the house to decide on the preferable solution. I cannot however do that if every time we face a problem I am expected to represent one view. Yes that view might ultimately be the one that the house chooses, but, as the Chairperson I cannot be that impartial. This is very well to avoid us as the house making decisions then realising later that We could have decided otherwise had we known that there was another ultimatum. Now where it seems that I am raising a view that differs from other people it is not to say I am not considering the interests of Esseleners. It is simply to say that, as someone who is representing a multiplicity of views, I have to ensure that, at all times, before any decision is made, all those views are taken into consideration so that we as a house can make a progressive decision on any matter. I would like to, therefore, try and advise people to always feel free to raise their opinions. This is because the only way we will ever know what people want is if they tell us what they want. We will always seem as if we do not stand for the needs of the Esseleners if Esseleners rather have their private corridor sessions than informing us what they really want. The past incidents have really been a test as to the kind of relationship we as the incoming House Com will have with the House. Now as incoming Chair I would like to employ people to feel free to come to my room to discuss concerns they are not satisfied with and I believe I am speaking for the rest of my House Com members. That will only work to our advantage, as it will create a house that is united with its House Committee. Thank you
