Greetings from Pucallpa, Peru! The Shipibo family here is so welcoming and loving its ridiculous. They live on the edge of town bordering the jungle where Aanacondas live. Theres also a huge tarantulas here and other poisonous spiders. There are four foot long iguanas, Beautiful new tropical birds and the kids here are so playful and loving. The Shipibo medicine songs, called icaros, are incredible - I will share one in this post. Two days ago we went to a Shipibo town called San Francisco for their 100 year anniversary of being a community – About 2000 people live there. We took a 45 minute boat ride to get there and saw river dolphins! Also, as a sidenote, apparently there are pirranas in the rivers that actually eat things alive! I thought that was only in horror movies… Thus far I have been eating boiled plantains and fire cooked platains, and, river fish and other vegetables. By the way, exchange rate is one dollar to 2.8 Soles so everything here is incredibly affordable. Today we are going to one of the Onayas (Shipibo medicine person) house on the other side of town to see his garden of healing plants. Gaspar has shared two amazing stories so far - two times hes been bitten by a deadly snake and was moments from death however was saved by healing plants that another medicine person gave him. He also healed a western patient With HIV over a three-week period and full recovery after six months with no more sign of the virus in his body. All in all weve been here about 4 days and in many ways feels like four weeks. I am learning and growing so much and so grateful to be here. More to come…
