Greetings ladies, It is with great pleasure I welcome you today. I am both proud and honored to be the founder of Beautiful Women. I like to take a moment to introduce myself to the group. I was a non-traditional student who returned to college at age 48 and my expertise is in transnational sociology; race/ethnicity. I hold bachelor’s degree in African American & African studies and minor Sociology from the University of California, Davis. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of San Francisco in Psychology with emphasis in counseling specializing in urban communities. I currently substitute teach Kindergarten in the Sacramento area where I will be interning in counseling this fall 2014. I developed my interests through community activism, and various experiences within marginalized communities. As an undergraduate student, I became very concerned about the impact of poverty on educational outcomes for women and their children. I set my goals on creating a nonprofit organization that could serve women in my hometown of East Palo Alto, California. On April 25, 2011, I applied my education and management skills to form my own nonprofit MPEPA Beautiful Women. MPEPA is not active; however from that experience “Beautiful Women” was formed to provide a positive reflection of black beauty and to share women health and education resources. My vision to give back to local community, honor and bring together influential women on one platform with specific and similar interests has been successful. This forum is successful mainly because of beautiful women, who follow us, post impressive articles and images specific to their motivation in celebrating women of color.
