Greetings on the Eve of Trinity 9, as the weather takes on an early Autumnal feel! As promised to him, praying for Bishop Michael Lewis and all of his flock, clergy and colleagues, as they work for the Kingdom of God in the desperate area of the Middle East, especially remembering Canon Andrew White in Baghdad, as he witnesses daily horror all around him. Lord, give them all strength, courage in body and peace of mind and spirit, in their efforts to love and care for the little people they serve. Praying for those who have fallen victim to another round of abductions by Boku Haram in Nigeria. May they and the schoolgirls taken weeks ago, not be forgotten but, held in the safe and loving hands of God and be returned to their loved ones. May God have mercy on the souls of the Yazzidi men massacred by IS terrorists, and may He care for the women and children taken in fear and hatred, in attempts to force them all to renounce their faith. We ask for God to hold the souls of the 700 from a single tribe in Syria, reported to have been massacred. May those who perpetrate these evils, truly repent, or be held to account by Almighty God on the Last Day. We ask that the peaceable faith of people of true religion, prevail against wickedness, in love and reconciliation. Asking God to care for all who are shamelessly trafficked by those whose sole principles, are greed and worship of money. Thinking especially of those rescued from the shipping container at Tilbury and for the dear ones of the person who died seeking a better life. May we extend arms of love and welcome to those who are desperate and have nothing. Remembering all those anxiously waiting for their GCSE results this week and for their families and friends, as they try to support them. May those who get the news they hoped for, be ready to set out in strength and faith, on the next stage of their life-journey. For those who are disappointed, may they know love and support, as they seek a different path in life, from that which they had hoped for. May all of us who have journeyed further in life, be wise and caring friends when needed. Thinking of those who have received bad news this week, either about their own health, or about ones whom they love and care for. May each feel the peace of Christ as they come to terms with their fears, and find strength if they find it difficult to accept, or are yet unable to share their news with their loved ones. Giving great thanks for the love, care and generosity of friends, especially when it has been shown through a particularly unexpected act of kindness and love. May we never feel too proud, or independent to accept such gifts given but, see in them, the love of Christ our Lord, friend, and Brother, who gave himself for each of us, freely, willingly and unconditionally. When needed, may we each be ready to respond as faithful and loyal friends, knowing that each opportunity is God-sent. May those who give be doubly blessed in the giving. For all those on holiday, or looking forward to a break, may they find rest, re-creation and joy in that time away from their daily grind, and return in greater strength and renewed commitment. For those families or individuals unable to afford time away, may there be other opportunities of fellowship, or fun, granted to them, perhaps unexpectedly, or through the efforts of others. Especially remembering church clubs, sports and activities, set up to give youngsters a sense of purpose and a sense of the family of God in their lives, where perhaps there is little other togetherness. May God care for us ALL, night, day and always. X
