Greetings to all! :) So far, based on previous posts, Im the only fan from Croatia! :P As far as I know anyway! xD Just wanted to share a few of my thoughts regarding Stapledon. Im in love with his work. Just read Star Maker (my first and only foray into his opus) and... that piece of fiction (almost a derogatory meaning when used in the same sentence with the title IMHO) struck me like a lightning bolt. Always knew of him, if anything, as one of quintessential SF writers, but never got around to read any of his works until recently. That particular book almost had a revelatory effect on me; incredibly powerful, quasi-religious one (coming from someone who wouldnt qualify as a particularly religious person, or at all). IF there were to be a single book that might offer grounds for a new unifying religion, based on the necessity of transcending the human condition (be it in Teilhardian sense of the word, Omega point n all), this one would be it. Ofc, its a radical thought, but all I wanted was to illustrate my impression of its potential significance. Of course, Im looking forward to any and all recommendations from this group to augment my reading pleasure and the discovery of Stapledons other works (some of them are already listed here, and Im looking for The Last and First Men as my next read ^^)! :) Hope I didnt badger you all with my long-ish post, and thanks! :)
