Greetings to my Northshield Brothers and Sisters, I am honored to announce that I have taken a position in the Signet’s office that has been created just for me, that being the prestigious (yet currently unofficial) title of Award-rec Procurement Enforcer or APE. I will soon be in contact with similar Out Of Kingdom (OOK) officials such as Kingdom Officers for Notable Greatness (KONGs) to see how I can best serve Northshield. (You have no idea how long I spent on Thesaurus coming up with that last one). As Scribal APE I will be advising you of deadlines for submitting Award Recommendations for upcoming events and encouraging you to submit those recommendations to Their Stellar Majesties for gentles you feel worthy of honors. Before I get into the particulars I would like to give you my take on the importance of all this. I believe that the Award Structure is as much responsible for the growth of the SCA, retention of members and the inspiration to excel as any other factor. When someone is given an award it reinforces to them they are on the right path in their endeavors. It also holds them up as an example of what the SCA values. It says to newer members that this person is a potential mentor for their own aspirations. In many ways it is the glue that binds the SCA to its people and its ideals. But the process can’t go forward without you, the citizens of the Kingdom, helping Their Majesties accomplish this. The Northsield Website is our greatest resource here. With that in mind here’s how you can help: - Get any Northshielders who have not registered themselves on Northshield.org to do so at: northshield.org/Populace/Registration.aspx - Review the Kingdom Award Structure to find the most appropriate honor to recommend the gentle for at: northshield.org/OrderOfPrecedence/KingdomAwards.aspx?Libary/Awards - And finally, No Later than One Month before each event attended by Their Majesties submit an Award Recommendation for those you deem worthy at: northshield.org/OrderOfPrecedence/Recommendation.aspx Note: Occasionally events attended only by Their Highnesses will be granted a Regency Court to bestow Kingdom honors.
