Greetings to the people and political leadership of my Odogbolu - TopicsExpress

Greetings to the people and political leadership of my Odogbolu Local Government Area (LGA) in Ogun State: As someone who by God’s grace successfully rose from poverty to where I am today, and who has always believed in our people, I feel a sense of obligation to speak about and address the ongoing social injustice in the Ogun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Suffice it to say that I feel the APC as a political party left me and not that I left the APC. Mischievous politicians within the present formation, rank and file of the APC in Ogun state have moved the party in a wrong-headed direction and unfortunately the party strayed away from the ideals which my people of Odogbolu Local Government Area (LGA) believed in and knew the ACN/APC to hitherto stand for. The ACN/APC party has been hijacked in Ogun state by strangers who came into the party, took possession of the party via dubious anti-democratic means, and are now running the party like a private business enterprise. The APC in Ogun state has become “Amosun Private Company,” and what the APC is in Ogun state today is nothing like the political party that my Odogbolu LGA people and I once knew and valued greatly. The ACN/APC we once knew was a party of social progressives, where we all felt a sense of collective belonging! That ACN/APC we once knew died when t metamorphosed into what exists in the ruling party in Ogun state today. I grew up knowing social heroes and political gladiators such as the late Pa. Obafemi Awolowo and Pa. Abraham Adeasanya. Equally, I grew up knowing current Ogun East Senator, Alhaji Adegbenga Kaka as being a worthy role model. These are some of the many highly respected political mentors among my people who undoubtedly would not be pleased with what the ACN/APC has become in Ogun state today. The party is unfortunately no longer espousing the values of social progressives but essentially now championing the values of dictators. Today, as I am setting aside the “All Progressives Congress” and joining forces with the Social Democratic Party, I especially wish for my political supporters and well-wishers to know and have the full understanding that my decision is predicated and based upon policy issues and social differences in which the best interest of my Odogbolu people is paramount to me. Consequently, it is my honest resolve that the social and political progress of my people can be best served through the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and as such, after due consultations with my Ijebu-Aiyepe families, friends and supporters, I have now effectively declared my membership in the Social Democratic Party. I may not necessarily agree with every political position of the SDP, as someone who is a social progressive to the core of my being. But there is enough common cause with the SDP for me to know that I have received valuable advice and that I have made the right choice for the best interests of my people as a result. This is the choice I believe will deliver dividend of democracy to the good people of my Constituency, and give my people better chances for possible social and economic developments. The APC in Ogun state has become out-of-touch with my people and no longer the party of “change” as their make-believe slogan will like to have my people believe. More so, to the party’s inability to offer real solutions to the problems affecting my Odogbolu Constituents, despite my people’s supposed representation within the APC, amply highlights the culture of impunity permeating the APC. I ask for your support in the quest to go fight for Odogbolu State Constituency in Ogun State House of Assembly on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2015 elections, and you, my people of Odogbolu LGA can count on my intrepid resolve to always fight boldly for your best economic, social and political interests at every step of the way for as long as I represent you in the Legislature in our Gateway state. Thank you all and may God continue to bless Odogbolu LGA and Ogun state of Nigeria!!! I remain yours sincerely, Omoba Hakeem Awolesi
