Greg Martin Group Scratchy Available at your favorite indie record store, or direct from Sundazed Music... sundazed/ This is our take on Scratchy, originally recorded by the great Travis Wammack in 1964 on the ARA label. We approached this as if John Mayalls Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, Peter Green or Mick Taylor would have recorded it in 1966. Thus, the 1958 Les Paul into a 1968 50 watt plexi Marshall half stack. As a teenager growing up in Louisville, we owned the 45 record of Scratchy & Firefly by Travis, along with records by Lonnie Mack, The Ventures, Arthur Smith, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Phil Baugh and others. These early instrumentals were a huge influence on me. Of course, when The Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Hendrix and Cream hit, my direction changed a bit.... This no way compares with Travis Wammacks version, hopefully it honors him. The HeadHunters and I have been lucky to play with both Travis and Lonnie Mack over the years, what an honor to play with these guys! Travis, your 45 record is in the mail thanks!!
