Griffith J. Griffith was born in January 4, 1850. He donated 3,000 acres of land to the city of Los Angeles in 1896 on the condition that it had to be a public park for everyone to enjoy, which is how we got Griffith Park. Griffith became notorious when he shot his wife in the head in 1903. She survived and he only served two years in San Quentin. He donated money to build the Griffith Observatory, but these funds were not used until the 1930s. Griffith J. Griffith is buried at Hollywood Forever.
