Grits. I love grits. They dont make them in TX and/or OK like they do in the Deep South, which I discovered in SC a few years ago. They eat what are called stone ground grits and they are absolutely heavenly. So, when we took our spring break vacation, I was on a mission - to find stone ground grits. I ate grits for breakfast every day, hoping they would be stone ground. No such luck - didnt eat them in Ark, TN, or NC. However, on Beale St. in Memphis, in a souvenir shop, I found a 16 oz. bag of STONE GROUND GRITS for $6 - four servings. I bought the bag and then a light bulb went off - as we go further east, we will be able to find them, and probably more reasonably priced. When we got to Nashville, on about the fourth day of my futile search, we found a grocery store, and lo and behold, there they were! Bags and bags of stone ground grits. Lynne tried to persuade me to buy all of them. Common sense told me that three bags at $4 a bag would suffice - each of those bags serve six. So, here I am, back home, with 4 bags of stone ground grits that will serve 22, and Im hoarding them until I can share them with the other three members of my family who like grits. Im a purist when it comes to my grits - salt and butter only. Im soooo happy that my search paid off and Im sure Jennifer and Lynne are glad to hear me quit talking about grits.
