~ Grizzlys Rehab! ~ For a week now we have remained very quiet about a very special guest we have staying here with us at The Dog Therapy Centre. Grizzly will be here for at least 30 days receiving specialist help for his behavioural issues. A short background on this big guy starts of with him being bred and trained as a Protective Service Dog, he failed in this role due to his reactivity towards others dogs and some other animals. Upon first meeting him and his owner I knew he was a serious case when we walked past a house with a barking dog behind the fence to which he unleashed his aggressive reactivity and nearly pulled his owners arm out of its socket. We saw another dog out walking and the reaction was a thousand times worse, if you can imagine a wild bull on a leash? Grizzlys owner agreed he needed far more than dog training and far more than in-home behaviour modification. Here we are a week into his rehab, so much work behind the scenes has gone into what you seeing here (hours and hours of time to build trust, respect, daily exercise, training and even a few scary moments where he has tried to redirect his aggression towards me!). We are honored to have this dog join us, he is living as one of us and as you can see lifestyle is what changes these dogs. Being a trained Protective Service dog you cant teach or train a dog like this with harsh aversive methods, these are the techniques that were used to agitate and aggravate him into aggression. Balanced Dogs are his teachers now, we are truly working as a team, just look at my puppy Memphis go!!! TDF
