Grocery stores in China ALL seem to have exactly one type of cold cut. It is a low quality ham product. There are about five brands, with marginally different packaging, but they all sell the identical ham product. It never occurred to anyone to make pepperoni, salami, turkey loaf…. There are two kinds of cheese, several identical brands of horrible yellow American cheese and now I found three brands of a soft, tasteless cheese, that I use for a sandwich spread. There are various brands of sliced white bread, all exactly the same. There are numerous bakery chains in the city, but with the exception of a few, exclusive foreign chains, they all have the same products and NEVER a weekly special or a variation. They all sell very soft breads which are too sweet and often contain pork floss. The desert pastries are not sweet enough and never have any kind of icing on them. I have been here for over a year and they haven’t changed. In fact, they are the same products I saw in Taiwan, 12 years ago.
