Grooving in at #443 is Axis: Bold as Love by Jimi Hendrix - the fact that Hendrix showed up in a book about heavy metal albums is testament to how influential both he and psychedelic rock in general were on the roots of metal. The heaviness and groove that would appear just a couple of years after this album in Black Sabbaths debut are right up in front in the work of this legend. Its alluring and dreamy, abrasive rather than aggressive, but at the end of the day Im just not enough of a hippie to rock this all the time. Maybe if my teenage years had been filled with more chemical experiments.
