Groundbreaking Held at Old Chicopee High School CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — New life is being pumped into the former Chicopee High School. A groundbreaking was held at the school Tuesday. Plans call for turning the old high school into a middle school. The $38 million project will receive 80 percent state reimbursement. Mayor Richard Kos calls it a win-win for the city. “With 80 percent reimbursement, it’s a home run for the city…to bring another building up to state of the art standards, but also just geographically, it allows for spacing and transportation issues to be much milder and addressed in a more comprehensive way way,” Kos explains. The new middle school is expected to be ready for some 800 students by the fall semester of 2015.
