Group, APC trade words over plan to disrupt Alao-Akala’s declaration THE campaign team of the former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, ‘Team Akala’, has frowned at an alleged plan by some politicians in the opposition party to cause mayhem in Ibadan, the state capital, today, during the official declaration of Alao-Akala’s governorship ambition. This is contained in a statement signed by its media coordinator, Ademola Adeniyi and made available to newsmen on Wednesday. The group said that “it was aware of plans by some politicians in the opposition party to cause violence on Thursday, during the official declaration of Alao-Akala. “We are aware that they have printed T-shirts bearing the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) logo, Alao- Akala and President Goodluck Jonathan’s pictures to perpetrate the evil act,’’ it said. However, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity and Strategy in the state, Olawale Sadare, said the allegation was baseless. Sadare said the statement credited to a group known as Southern Nigerian Youth Forum (SNYF), wherein it was alleged that Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the ruling party in the state, APC had perfected plans to storm the venue of Alao-Akala’s declaration with some political thugs and disrupt the event, was a false alarm coming from the camp of some noisemakers, who had been rejected by the people. He said: “The APC, which is today popular for its ability to restore peace, tranquility and discipline in every sector of the society as far as Oyo State is concerned, cannot for any reason, encourage violence, social disorder and political brigandage again, but rather collaborate with every patriotic citizens to sustain the prevailing atmosphere of peace and orderliness. “However, we would like to use this opportunity to warn some disgruntled political players, as well as their supporters with criminal tendencies, to think twice and do away with their plans to unleash another round of violence and political terror on the people of the state in the quest to contest and win at all costs, as the 2015 general elections approach.”
