** Group Activity** Okay guys this evening I am going to do something different with you all as we are going to do a group activity!! So here it is this evening we are going to tell each other our severe weather favourite moments or stories and possibly tell is what got you all soooo interested in all things weather! This lets everyone get to know each other that little bit better! I shall start things off with a Severe Weather Story. This took place in Ayr on a Friday in January 2014 Severe weather on this day was Gale force winds and high tides with scattered showers being heavy at times. Atmospheric pressure if I remember correctly was between 960hpa and 970hpa. I was sitting in the flat watching what was going on throughout the UK with reports that was coming in through various groups and forums. Also watching Sky News I went onto Facebook to see a picture of the waves crashing up onto Ayr seafront 5 minute walk from where I stay. This raised for concerns and I checked SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) There was no warning issued for Ayr seafront however a warning was issued for Troon and Prestwick which is next door to Ayr. I then decided to venture on out to investigate this matter in harsh conditions to find out that there was a flock of people down at the seafront watching things unfold as branches and logs were being forced onto the road by these gigantic waves. This caused for road closures as flooding was happening at Ayr Seafront and in the surrounding Ayrshire Coastal areas. I took the time to inform SEPA of the concerns and what was going on at the time. They said they would send someone out. No warning was issued in the end this angered me a lot as people were in danger of debris and flood water could have reached the homes thankfully it never did. Previously I had phone calls from the Ayr Advertiser trying to find out to what was the causing for the barrage of Low Pressure Systems and for the winds to be this severe. They called me again in regards to this incident I was happy to give them all the information I could and even brought up the fact that SEPA had not issued nothing. The paper even phoned up SEPA and funnily enough they could not get through to them. I carried out a site investigation and there was minimal structural damage but some none the less such as flying tiles and uprooted trees. This has Sparked a fire in me for a Project that I am planning on doing with SkyWarn UK for this years Gales which they seem very interested in and seems as though I have there support in all this providing that carry this out safely! I have always been fascinated with the Gales we get here in Scotland and definitely our storm season as we do not get as many thunderstorms as we should in the summer. That is one of my stories please feel free to share with us youre stories or favourite severe weather moments. :)
