Group Posting Guidelines :- 1. What periods should be posted about ? - We have had a group vote on this in Jan 15 & the decision was 300-1500AD. 2. Respectful debate - Please try and show respect when debating. Debate should generally be point and counterpoint between members. Throwing point after point out there without response can be seen as bullying and is not good. If you disagree with points or think information is inaccurate, please try and be constructive and positive with your argument / feedbacks. This is a group for people of all levels and just rubishing peoples posts and comments with no constructive thought will put off fellow history lovers (who are maybe just starting out in their learning) off posting again which is not what we want. Inaccurate posts can actually be helpful as when they are debated and a few facts and truths come out then people become more educated on the subjects. 3. Politics & Religion - posting on the politics & religion of the period is absolutely fine. Posting of later or current day politics is not for this group. They will be removed and ultimately if a member insists on carrying on posting about current day politics & religion, they may have to be reluctantly removed. 4. Geographical areas to be included – This is ongoing and will be decided on in the near future, possibly by group vote. 5. is Wikipedia OK to quote from? As this is a group for people of all knowledge levels - any sources can be used. If people wish to discuss history from just primary and secondary sources then there are other more scholarly groups out there which will facilitate this. Yes wikipedia is full of inaccuracy but as stated elsewhere inaccurate information can lead to a good debate and the facts coming out to all members. Wikipedia can be a starting point for a lot of learning, it is a good research tool which then leads to more in depth sources. 6. Please do not use capital letters to bully points across. 7. Duplicate posts may be taken down. 8. Threads may be put on ice whilst reviewed if complaints are received, please do not continue to comment if this is the case. 9. Genealogy - We have had a group vote on this in October 2014 & the group voted in favour of no original posts on genealogy, the bone of contention is personal genealogy. So genealogical Original Posts linking various people of the medieval time with each other and their lineages is fine but not if it links to the person writing the post. The second vote was on comments made under Original Posts (on the thread) and the overwhelming vote was that off comments of personal genealogy are fine but not full on discussions or multiple comments on such. Please can people abide by what has been decided on. If members persist in posting outside of the guidelines it is with regret they may have to lose them, the same goes for people who persist in arguing against them as it has been voted on and a re-vote would be way down the line 10. Peoples posts which are just complete b******s will just be taken down :) If this becomes a point of opinion, trial by ordeal can be arranged. 11. Sharing of other facebook groups. If you wish to share a relevant group, please inbox an admin and they will approve the request. If they are nothing to do with history then please do not ask :) 12. Advertising. Please inbox an admin for permission before advertising items for sale. Under certain circumstances this will be allowed but if they are posted without permission they will come down and persistent re-posting will have to result in the member leaving. We do not want the group just to become an advertising forum for other things. 13. Please do not generalise whole nations or races of people, it is ignorant to do so and posts of this nature add nothing positive to the group. 14. Language – EMH is an English Language group so to keep it accessible comments will need to be in English. Original posts in English with an accompanying translation from another language will be accepted though. It goes without saying abusive, racism, bigotry, etc. cannot be tolerated that is a facebook policy anyway and if it wasnt enforced the group would be in danger. If you see any posting which you find offensive in anyway please report to an admin and they will be reviewed and taken down if necessary, this will always be within 24 hours but in nearly all cases very much sooner. In general we need to all show respect to our fellow history lovers and as important respect for debate.
