Group alleges that northern political and traditional leaders sponsoring violence to force Jonathan out of leadership A coalition of socio-political organisations under the aegis of the Southern Mandate has accused some politicians in the North of a plot to stampede President Goodluck Jonathan out of the contest for the Presidency in 2015. The National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Tito Zuokumor, said in a statement on Sunday that the fresh plot by the Northern groups to oust Jonathan at all cost was designed to further heighten the tension and indeed plunge the country into a deeper crisis. Zuokumor was reacting to the resolution of a meeting of some Northern groups which included the Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum, Northern Union, Arewa Reawakening Forum, and Middle Belt Forum in Kaduna on Friday. The northern groups had reportedly insisted at the meeting that the region must produce the President in 2015, while also blaming the disunity and crises in the area on the second term ambition of President Jonathan. Zuokumor said that it was wrong for any group of persons to heap blames on Jonathan for the insurgency and the crises in the North stressing that both issues were in existence before the election of the President. He accused the North of failing to provide a purposeful leadership during their over 30 years hold onto political power which according to him impoverished the common Northerner. He said that it was rather unfortunate that northern leaders were holding meetings to plot how to oust Jonathan from office when the country and the international community were engrossed in efforts to ensure the release of the abducted girls of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok. “At a time when the entire nation, and indeed, the world is in pain and agony over the abduction of over 200 school girls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by the Boko Haram insurgents, it is baffling and a display of the highest level of insensitivity for northern leaders to be holding meetings and plotting how to seize power in 2015, instead of being at the forefront of efforts by the Federal Government, international community and well-meaning Nigerians to rescue the girls from captivity,” he said. It was stated alleged further that the groups were coming up with the current plot because of the failure of the Boko Haram to destabilize the government and the support offered by the international community to fight terrorism in the country.
