Groups hold protest ahead of EDCA oral arguments Supreme Court, Manila November 18, 2014 The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan today held a protest in front of the Supreme Court a few hours ahead of the scheduled oral arguments on the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA). Bayan is among the broad array of petitioners questioning the legality of the defense pact which they decried as a new basing agreement. We will set out to prove that the EDCA is a new basing agreement whose provisions violate the Philippines contitution. We will argue that the EDCAs provisions go beyond existing agreements such as the Mutual Defense Treaty and the Visiting Forces Agreement.
