Group’s spokesman blames Ohanaeze for death of members BY GODDY OSUJI, ABAKALIKI ON AUGUST 25, 2014 ·NATIONAL Ohanaeze Ndigbo and a royal father as well as the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike have been blamed for the crisis within the organisation that claimed four lives. The National Director of Information of the organisation, Uchenna Madu made the allegation in a statement in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, where he complained that despite alerting the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation and some political, religious and traditional leaders as well as other well meaning Igbo to the tension at MASSOB headquarters, no positive steps were taken to avert the crisis. “Even for the alarm I raised because of Uwazuruike’s insensitivity, I have received series of threatening calls from some members. “I am being trailed, my family is in danger but I am not deterred. This is Igbo cause. I have suffered to protect, project and vowed to actualise the dream of Ndigbo,” he said. The MASSOB spokesman blamed all those he had contacted before the violence, for the death of the MASSOB security men allegedly sent to Okwe by Uwazuruike, to dislodge their fellow brothers at the headquarters. Madu stated that “our members are losing confidence in the possibility of Biafra’s actualisation,” describing some zonal administrators, “who are always deceiving our leader with falsehood against fellow officials as, sycophants, cowards and parasites in MASSOB.” He appealed to the warring parties, to sheath their swords assuring that peace and harmony would be restored in the movement. “The rumour making the rounds within MASSOB members that the national security men will assassinate our leader, Uwazuruike, is false and deceiving. “There is no such plan. Chief Ralph Uwazuruike is still MASSOB leader and any attempt to kill him will be resisted. I vow to die in his defence,” he said.
