Grow House Busted Thursday, August 21, 2014 A grow house has been dismantled and one man is in jail thanks to an anonymous tip to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers. On the evening of Wednesday, August 20, 2014, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group Narcotics Unit concluded an investigation into a subject suspected of growing large amounts of marijuana. The investigation began after receiving an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip into the address of 10370 Angus Lane, Fort Myers. This address was situated in a rural area of Lee County, complete with livestock within a fenced in compound. The tip stated a man, later identified as Jesus Ramos Perez (DOB 6-5-68), had over a hundred pounds of marijuana stored within a barn on the property. Detectives were able to conduct surveillance on the property and eventually located Ramos Perez leaving the property in his vehicle. Detectives continued surveillance on Ramos Perez and were able to make a traffic stop on I-75 near Bayshore Road. During the encounter, K-9 was utilized which led to the discovery of an illegal sawed off loaded shotgun hidden inside of clothing within reach of the driver. Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence, which eventually led to the discovery of one-hundred fifty-five (155) mature marijuana plants being cultivated inside rooms, complete with artificial light and irrigation, all manufactured within the barn. The plants weighed over 320 pounds and were in advanced stages of budding. The marijuana had a street value of $450,000. Detectives also found additional ammunition for the firearm that was found on Ramos Perez. As the investigation progressed, additional evidence and information was obtained linking Ramos Perez to the cultivation of the said marijuana. Ramos Perez was charged with trafficking in marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, owning a structure used to traffic narcotics, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, and carrying a concealed firearm. Ramos Perez is currently being held within the Lee County Jail. This was the second large-scale marijuana grow operation discovered within two weeks as a result of a reliable anonymous tip called in to Crime Stoppers.
