Growing up, I used to hate living out in the middle of nowhere. - TopicsExpress

Growing up, I used to hate living out in the middle of nowhere. All potential sleepovers, dates and plans of any kind had to be thought out way in advance because home was forty-five minutes round trip, not to mention the gas (learned that lesson when I had to start paying for my own lol).Forgetting homework or anything important was a criminal offense, because that meant someone (usually mom) had to go all the way home and back to our schools to save our butts. Since dad has always taught, he always had the same breaks as us, which meant we didnt need a babysitter or daycare in town. I remember jumping at the chance to go to the store with him or even ride along to pay the water bill, anything to be closer to town! I think the hardest part for us was the fact that we were the only ones who didnt live in town out of all our friends, cousins, and we were completely surrounded by our geriatric neighbors lol But when I think about it, those neighbors watched us grow up, its almost like we had ten sets of grandparents. We were the only trick or treaters, the only ones to bring fresh garden vegetables and fruits to, the only ones to buy dumb fundraiser junk from. Remembering all those things, On my run tonight, I passed one of my favorite grandmas houses. Each time I rounded the corner she would open her screen door from her rocker and wave and cheer and just be so stinkin cute. I wouldnt trade that kind of sense of community for the entire world.
