Growing up in Bristol Bay after moving to Clarks Point for the summer. We would get every thing ready for fishing. Then I would spend time with some of the old timers down at the cannery. They would put me to work on getting ready there boats ready. I would take a scrapper to there boats and get them ready for paintting. Then they would let me help paint there boats. I would help out enough to make my self some spending money. I would give half of it to grandma for food. Then I was free to spend the rest on my self and my friends. I never had to ask my mom or gram for money. There was this one time I was washing down old man swedes boat getting all the mud off it. I was using the cannery fire hose to take mud off his boat and about the time I was washing the bow John Cuthill the superintendent and his wife walked in front of his boat. I turned towards him and his wife no thinking were the water was. I ended up knocking his wife flat on her ass. I dropped the hose and run. I new I was in trouble then. I went a hid in one of the old boat behind the cannery till I new it was safe for me to come out. Then I ran home down the beach and to grams house. When I got to grams house guess oh was there but John Cuthill and his wife. I apologies to her and I got kicked out of the cannery for two weeks. What hurt the most was not been able to go to coffee brake. My brothers would bring home sweet rolls for the house. So I was able to have some.
