Growing up in Detroit I couldnt help but feel a special bond with Canadians. Boblo Island, an amusement park near the mouth of Lake Erie that my step father worked on a steamer ship that ferried passengers to, was a popular destination for both countries. I made many friends every Summer on the island from Canada and would even visit some at their homes with my family. I loved the people, the sense of community, the pride they took in the appearance of their cities, the general cordial, happy nature of just about every Canadian I met. I always thought, if I ever live anywhere other than the U.S., it would be Canada first. Love and best wishes to all my Canadian friends in these moments of solemn remembrance.
