Growing up, most people learn that it is generally proper etiquette NOT to discuss religion, politics, or money in mixed company because people have strong, visceral reactions to these polarizing topics. Yet, many intelligent people feel compelled to push their political opinions on their Facebook friends who may not share their same political views. This suggests to me that either they dont care about offending their friends or that they are unaware that they are being offensive. I dont want to hear political propaganda from liberals or conservatives anymore than I want some religious fanatic knocking on my door and pushing their views of the after life on me. There is a time and a place for sharing these opinions. Facebook is not the place. Be civil and conscientious. Stop telling me what you think is wrong with the other political party. I didnt ask. As Teddy Roosevelt said, “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat. I dont think I can get through another presidential election without paring down my friend list significantly if some people continue to spew their political propaganda with reckless abandonment and without regard to the feelings of their soon to be ex-Facebook friends like me.
