Growing up named Igor: I just had another narcissist seizure. I have fewer these days thanks to the medication; however this mornings was especially acute and I may need to increase my prescription. But I did realise that I was someone who had a history of having grown up with the name Igor. This may very well have been a result of my narcissist seizure, but it occurred to me upon accessing the subjects memories, that his first social encounters with children outside of his family were of derision for his name. At 5 or 6, he recalls, his first social encounters with peers were punctuated with insulting jokes about his name, Igor. (The usual hunch back imitation and bad boris karloff impression; perhaps some of my friends on FB might recollect the routine; or performing it?) Those social determiners continued until he was in his teens and learned how to fight. Violence persists in being the ultimate decider. He learned not only that his peers liked to identify him with a monster but that jokes and put downs about peoples personal characteristics were acceptable, even encouraged social currency. This is how people related. The few friends Igor cultivated were all born of mutual verbal put downs. Fortunately I am not Igor and am completely uninfluenced by that social imprinting.
