Getting to know you: a) Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or convicted you? b) There is a saying, “He/she is so heavenly minded that he/she is no earthly good.” What are your thoughts about this saying? 1) Pastor Chuck gave us some background on this church in Thessalonica. How does this background information help us understand this passage? 2) *What does it mean to overcome our own death? 3) *Read Isaiah 1:10-18. It seems that getting caught up in the practice of religion is a trap many generations have fallen into. Why do you think this happens so frequently? 4) *Paul has been called the apostle of the heart. That is a radical change from his previous reputation. What can we learn from his story? 5) In Pastor Chucks message, he focused on our personal battle with pride. Why is overcoming pride so important for us spiritually? (See Matthew 16:21-27; Matthew 26:31-35; and Proverbs 16:17-19) 6) *Dig Deeper: We can be overcomers just like the Thessalonians. What will it take in your life to continue to be an overcomer? ( See John 15: 1-17)
