Growth. It’s the keystone of our society. We must continue to grow. The Dow Jones must go up. Your bank account must keep growing, your house should get bigger, just like your Jenga towers. Growth is everything, right? We learn that in third grade when the bigger kid holds you down and jams crayons in your mouth while the other kids LAUGH and LAUGH and LAUGH! (Billy Brand - youre not so tough NOW working at whatever gas station you restock beef jerky at! Im SO over you!) You think to yourself, “If I could grow, nobody would pick on me again.” Every day we’re taught “Growth is good.” But growth is also bad. Cancers grow, parasites grow, illegal NSA surveillance infrastructure grows, the popularity of bubble tea grows. (I don’t get the bubble tea thing! I dont care if it makes me unsophisticated!!) Yet we are told to NEVER question the infinite growth of our American society. Even though infinite growth is impossible – And that’s not JUST coming from our greatest thinkers - Neil Degrasse Tyson, Ellen Degeneres, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. It’s also coming from PHYSICS! Physics says we can’t have infinite growth on a planet with finite resources. The earth cannot sustain such a thing and will collapse under the pressure. - What do you think? Is our system flawed at its core? - [If you liked this, get more by joining the free weekly email newsletter at LeeCamp dot net.]
