Growth of the Rural Economy During the last decade, the rural and urban economies of Pakistan have not only been of more or less the same size, but have also shown the same annual growth rate of just above 4.5 percent. This is a surprising regularity and highlights the balanced growth that the country has experienced. Provinces where the rural economy has expanded faster than the urban economy are Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
