Guardians of the Galaxy felt like a Toy Story movie to me in many ways. The antagonism between comrades, the sly, self-aware humor that veers it away from genre cliches...even the heart of the Toy Story movies is almost there (but not quite). Whats lacking is the establishment of any physical rules of the universe, so when crazy stuff happens it feels unearned, unlike Buzz finally flying at the end of Toy Story. And finally, the staging of the action is often sloppy. There are fantastic action scenes, but too many moments that were incomprehensible (this seems to be a Marvel mandate). Overall, Im looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy 2. God knows its coming whether I liked it or not. Im glad I liked it.
