Guerrilla Dance Practice Day 108 Grass and feedback I’m - TopicsExpress

Guerrilla Dance Practice Day 108 Grass and feedback I’m allergic to grass. This makes guerrilla work on the ground difficult for me. Rehearsing “Resilient, Receptive” with Hannah Ruth Brothers yesterday we both felt like doing at least a little work on the ground—by the end we ended up on pavement as we were both getting a bit cut up by the grass. I love floorwork, and this phrase barely begins to use the ground as much as I would like to. I find the feedback I get by interacting with the ground in diverse ways grounds me and helps me integrate all parts of my body. I wonder about a suit of some sort that would make it possible to really roll around outside on pavement and grass. It’s interesting to me how much different embodied practices require different technologies and objects. Even a flat and clean floor space takes a lot of resources. Were trying to maintain a guerrilla rehearsal framework--that clearly affects the movement vocabulary. Having trained over the past year to teach on Pilates equipment I’m more willing to interact with objects in working with my own body. I don’t want to be dependent on devices—especially things that cost 2 or 3 thousand dollars and take up a lot of space, but they can assist connection. I use reformers, arc barrels, springs, and other equipment to try to develop awareness and ability that can be taken off the equipment. Resistance creates feedback, tensioning structures and activating the nervous system. I recently procured a MOTR developed by Darya Bronston here in SB—it’s being sold by Balanced Body. I’m excited that it offers resistance similarly to the larger Pilates equipment but doesn’t cost a fortune or take up space. Playing with it during my morning practice this morning I appreciated the feedback it provided. Sometimes my morning practice consists of me as a pile on the floor; it can be hard to motivate myself to activate in space. The MOTR gave me something to push and pull against—an object encouraging relationship; refining some specific connections. To meet the ground outside I guess a pavement and grass suit is next! https://vimeo/111800972
