Guidelines on chickenpox and shingles for pregnant women updated. Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists advises pregnant women who have not had chickenpox to avoid those with the virus. Both the The Guardian and Independent cover the story today, Wednesday 21 January 2015. Read the story in the link below our statement. CMV is more common than Down’s Syndrome, Toxoplasmosis (the cat poo one) or Listeria (the blue cheese one). 2 or 3 babies born every day in the UK are damaged as a result of CMV infection in pregnancy. CMV prevention advice should be part of the guidelines, like any other potential pregnancy infections like Chicken Pox. CMV Action are working hard to ensure that CMV will also be covered by these guidelines too as 2 to 3 babies are damaged by the CMV virus every day in the UK. We know women want info about preventing #CMV infection. 2015 is the year we focus on educating Health Care Professionals (HCPs). We are also working hard to build alliances with professional bodies, like the Royal College of Midwives and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). We are also working hard to ensure CMV prevention advice in included on the in Start4Life emails.
