Guildford News ** Airport against Rezoning of Rosehill Golf Course - too NOISY** It is not in the best interest of the airport nor the community for people to live on the land where the Rosehill Golf Course is now reports aviation editor of the Weekend West, Mr Geoffrey Thomas. He states that the Perth Airport chief executive Mr Brad Geatches told him the airport had objected to the redevelopment because of noise. Mr Geatches believes the proposed redevelopment would be in a zone not appropriate for construction of residential housing. He stated that noise above the ANEF 25 zone should not be built even with insulation (and one would suppose double glazing). Those of us already living close to the airport know how loud it can become when some planes are overhead. One South Guildford resident told Guildford News they had their own noise monitor inside their lounge room which showed how many planes went over and how loud they were. I saw one plane a few days ago was in excess of 116 decibels while the majority were between 60-70+ decibels. I was not surprised. There are times when I cannot talk to my sister when she is on the same couch as me he said. The Weekend West reports the Planning Commission intends to approve the rezoning of the course. However at the end of the article it concludes with a remark that the minister is considering all aspects of the plan including the likelihood of aircraft noise. Hence, the rezoning is far from a dead cert after all. Lets all hope that Perth Airport buys the land where the Golf Course now sits, keeps the course running and installs a lovely statue like the Angel of the North seen below.
