Gujarat is known for its Jeev Daya culture, during summers people keep pots of water for birds, create bird houses, etc., to protect from what is known natural seasonal factor heat! But the same people do not realise how they cause the reason for thousands of deaths of these very birds during Uttarayan!! Why this contradiction? More than 5000 birds alone in Ahmedabad are killed due to this two day Uttarayan celebration! The spirit of festival could be celebrated in many other ways other than playing this deadly sport, which also kills people in good number!! Thanks to people like Soham Mukherjee, Akanksha Mukherjee, Dhaval S Patel, Sherwin Everett, Shiv Jadeja and many more, who actively work towards rescuing these birds and help save their lives! Lets make their efforts worth by saving these birds by choosing NOT to fly kites! We can also volunteer to save these birds from the deadly strings hanging on the trees n poles by removing them and spreading this word among others!
