Betiyann, a madame in the movie Talaash and a slum queen — a boss of all bad deeds — in Mann Mein Hai Vishwas, she has turned down two films and one soap, Bani — Ishq Da Kalma, which required her to repeat the role. She says, I have nothing against such roles. Ive played them with complete dedication, but I dont want to get typecast. Its easy for women to get slotted and I feel that we are a discriminated lot. How did she prepare for the role of a brothel owner? Says Gulfam, I researched a lot about brothel owners and courtesans of all eras. While playing Rasili Bai, I discovered that the mujra houses in Mumbai have, unfortunately, been converted into brothels. In fact, these brothel owners were appointed to teach rich girls about sensuality. We shot in real brothels for Talaash.
