Gunmen kidnap two business men in Borno border town GUNMEN suspected of Boko Haram sect members, Wednesday, kidnapped two businessmen in Gambouru border town of Ngala Local Council of the state in an unmarked two Toyota Hilux vehicles; and whisked them away to an unknown destination. Gambouru is a border town with Cameroon, and 138 kilometres northeast of Maiduguri, the state capital. An eyewitness in Gambouru said on phone, yesterday, that the gunmen burst into the market square in Hilux vehicles, and directed the people not to panic, before bundling the businessmen into the vehicle; and speeded off without killing any person at the market square and mosque. The eye witness said, “We were shocked with the abduction of our colleagues yesterday night, because the gunmen had been terrorizing us with sporadic gunshots in nearby villages and settlements on the Dikwa-Ngala road. This road has become a route where the insurgents have a field day of snatching people’s vehicles and in some cases, killing innocent travellers commuting to either Maiduguri or Gambouru/Ngala. “The military and police, are not even helping matters, as our distress calls to security operatives in the border areas of Cameroon and Dikwa-Maiduguri axis, are not responded in most cases of attacks on nearby villages and communities. This was why our vigilante youths patrol most of the streets of Gambouru up to 1 and 3am daily.” He said that last April, the Boko Haram insurgents had attacked Gombouru town and destroyed 200 lives and 445 houses, the central market, trucks, vehicles and motorcycles. Confirming the incident yesterday in Maiduguri, military sources in the Lake Chad Basin areas also said that there was an attempt by terrorists to attack on Gambouru on Wednesday night by suspected gunmen. “We could not get any report of casualties from the locals, as the gunmen attempted to attack and cause havoc in Gambouru border town.
