Gunmen kill Onitsha hotelier, injures three others Our Reporter September 1, 2013 From EMMANUEL UZOR, Onitsha Gunmen suspected to be hired assassins yesterday morning killed a hotelier in Onitsha, Anambra State. Sunday Sun gathered that the suspected hired assassins trailed the victim, an Onitsha-based businessman simply identified as Emeka, owner of Emeka Super Markets located at Anazaonwu Street and shot him severally. The deceased, who was also the owner of Orbit Hotels, located along Nsugbe Road near 33 Housing Estate, was said to be returning from Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium where he had morning exercise with two other people who sustained gunshot wounds from the attack of the hoodlums. The hoodlums numbering four, three men and a lady, said to be operating in a Toyota Sienna car, according to an eye witness, trailed the deceased who was driving with two other men from the stadium in his Toyota Corolla car with registration number KPP 11 AA, and shot him dead at the spot. The Toyota Corolla car had four bullet holes in the front windscreen, three by the driver’s side and one by the passenger’s side while the back windscreen was also shattered by bullets. An eye witness who was in a commercial bus who pleaded anonymous said that the killers of the victim shot him from their operation car and when he lost control of his car, they alighted from their car and shot him severally to ensure that he was dead, before heading back to their vehicle and spade off. The gunmen capitalized on the fact that the road was virtually empty of people as many were observing the monthly environmental clean up exercise. As a result, there was no challenge from any quarters including the police and men of Anambra State vigilante group operating in Onitsha. When contacted, the Onitsha Area Commander, Mr Benjamin Wordu confirmed the incident, saying that immediately he heard the gunshots from the hoodlums, he quickly rushed to the area with his men, but before they could get to the scene, the hoodlums had already fled.
