Gunn to the rescue as City make an away day point... A Craig Gunn strike five minutes from the end rescued a point for an under-strength Elgin City at Forthbank on Tuesday. The return after over two years for Paul Kaczan ended with the same result he enjoyed in his last game for City back in November 2011 – a 1-1 away draw. For a long time in this game, however, it did not look likely for City as they trailed from early in the second half with the promotion-chasing home side spurning several more chances. It was Elgin who posed the first threat – a shot from Dennis Wyness that flew wide of target – before Ally McKenzie had a shot saved by goalkeeper Crawford. Home fans in the 641 crowd – who had been given free admission – were left frustrated when Albion posed their first real threat only for a promising move to break down when Johnston failed to produce a cross of any merit. Shane Sutherland, who had made the line up despite an injury fear, had a rasping effort saved by Crawford in a first half bereft of real action. The game sparked into life at the start of the second half – and it was Albion who took the lead after five minutes, Jordan White wrong-footing the visiting defence and slipping the ball to Cunningham who steered it past the helpless Jellema. Stirling Albion should have been two goals up shortly after, White sending an effort over the bar from close range when it seemed easier to hit the target. A header from Smith was then scrambled off the line as City continued to live a charmed life. Those missed opportunities came back to haunt the home side when a corner from Harkins was met on the left side of the area by Gunn, who swept the ball high into the corner of the net. Full Time: Stirling Albion 1 Elgin City 1 Elgin City: Jellema, Beveridge, Finlayson, Urquhart (McLeod, 74), Crighton, Kaczan (Bayne, 69), Gunn, Harkins, Sutherland, Wyness, McKenzie (Murray, 84).
