Gus. Oh, Gus. One of the most vocal, and reactive dogs I have - TopicsExpress

Gus. Oh, Gus. One of the most vocal, and reactive dogs I have worked with in the last 20 years. Seriously. Its because of him that SuperB and I now use the Gus scale of dog reactivity. The closer they are on the scale of Gus, the more reactive and vocal they are. To give you an idea, when we are in the back of my property, we always know when he has arrived in front, on the street. We hear him loud and clear! If youve been to my place, you know its kinda big. This was early this morning during drop off for day care / training. Superhero Dogtrainer Tip: Always aim for calm and compliant. Nothing happens in a dogs life unless he is in a calm/compliant state of mind. Forward movement doesnt happen unless he is in a calm and compliant state of mind. Making sense? If Gus is allowed to come out of the truck in an adrenalized state of mind, the screaming / vocalization starts right away, and let me tell you, every one can hear it! So, here I am, waiting calmly and patiently to help Gus find his zen before he comes out. This was the first time in months he didnt blow up like a raging maniac upon exiting the truck. Score: JediJen 1 / Gus 0! It takes as long as it takes. Dont rush the process, you will only cause more anxiety. Be patient and lead by example. Be the role model. Superdog in the making here #attheendofyourleash ! ❤️ The life of a #socal dogtrainer rocks! #ie instagram/p/pdZTIclaEe/
