Gustavo Batista, a political science and philosophy double major, is this year’s Principia College Lincoln Academy Laureate. As a sophomore, he won an award for the best position paper at the Midwest Model United Nations. He also traveled on the Tibet Abroad, where he researched economic development. For his senior capstone, Gustavo is studying democracy in Book VIII of Plato’s The Republic, comparing it to democracy in the U.S. A soccer player, Batista played all four years and was team captain for the last three.
