Guy at the range club was asking... : I am hoping someone can shed some light on this for me: yesterday, I fired off 60 rounds of 7.62x54r surplus ammo through my 1931 Mosin-Nagant 91/30. When I was cleaning up the spent casings, I noticed that one of them had a split near the bottom of the neck – then I noticed a couple of others with varying degrees of this deformation. When I counted them all up, I discovered that 44 had no apparent damage, 10 had slight damage (“A”), 3 had a little more damage (“B”), two moderate (“C”) and one had a pretty severe split (“D”). I did not notice anything untoward while I was shooting and, I do not know if all of the damaged casings occurred near the beginning or end of the session (I only noticed these as I was tidying up). Has anyone else ever seen anything like this? I am not sure what to do or check and, I am not sure if this could result in a serious failure (and/or injury). Any ideas? Thanks for any and all suggestions....
