Gyalshing - The 200th Bhanu Jayanti was celebrated at the community centre, Gyalshing on 13th July 2014, organized by Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee, West Sikkim in collaboration with Pachim Sikkim Sayata Prakashan.To graced the occasion Shri. S.B.Subedi, Minister, RMDD was present as a chief guest, MLA, Yangthang, Smt. Chandra Maya Subba and Adhakshya,West, Smt. Devika Subba were present as a guest of honour. Also present were DC West, SP West, Councilors, Nagar panchayats, all heads of department, principals, headmasters, teachers, students from surrounding schools, panchayats, NGOs and local public from all walks of life. The programme started with garlanding the statue of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Bhanu Salig,Kyongsa by the chief guest, distinguished guest and locals followed by a thrilling sova Yatra till community hall, Gyalshing where the main programme was held. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that language plays multi-dimension role of the communities and the preservation of language is preservation of community, literature, culture, customs and traditions. He also called on the students to make habit of reading and writing literary works rather than wasting valuable time in social networking sites. The recipients of the Shrastha Puruskar awarded by Paschime Sikkim Sahitya Prakashan were Smt. Leela Chettri from Gangtok, for story, Shri. Sachin Khawas from Saluwa,West Bengal for Poem, Shri. Champa Diwas Rai from Namchi for Essay. Lalman Sancharani Smirti Puraskar was conferred to Shri Kalu Singh Ranapaheli,Kelimpong,West Bengal with the cash prize of ` 15,000/- and memento which was sponsored by shri. B.B.Muringla and Trilochand Dhakal Smirti Puraskar was conferred to Kajol Agrawal form Girls Sr. Sec. School, Kyongsa. The programme included Ramayana Paath, Kavita, Nibandha and Katha paath competition among the inter school and open categories followed by cultural programme. In the Inter school Ramayana Paath competition, Kyongsa girls’ SSS was adjudged the winner, where as in the open competition Ari Goan Samaj Sudhar Mandali was the winner. Likewise in the poem recitation competition Rekha Devi Sharma of Langang Sec. School was the winner and Kharananda Sharma was declared winner in the open category. Jawala Das from Pelling Sr. Sec.School (inter-school) and Gyanandra Rai (open) were the winners in story telling competition. Doma Sherpa Middle Gyalshing Sec. School (inter-school) and Chandra Prakash Sharma (open) were declared winners respectively in the Essay competition. The programme was also celebrated at soreng sub-div, Dentam, Tashiding and legship.
