Gym Member Profile: Amanda Schemkes 1. What was your first punch delivered like? The first punch I delivered was slow and didnt have any fire to it--its feeling amazing now to start figuring out how to put passion into my punches! 2. What Skill in the gym do you bring into your daily life? Strength, confidence, feeling more comfortable trying stuff that scares me, ready to confront challenges. 3. Do you focus on the process or the outcome? The process. When I focus on the process, the outcome gets better. 4. What is your greatest strength and greatest weakness? Compassion for both. Compassion motivates me to work hard as an activist and to want to do great things with life, but it also leads me to over committing myself and being taken advantage of. 5. Have you experienced any downside to boxing? If so, how do you deal with the negative feeling? Some days I feel like I struggle more in class, but I remind myself that overall Im getting better at everything. 6. What is the most challenging thing you have had to overcome? An abusive relationship, but the process of overcoming it is teaching me to find myself again and feeling happy and strong means so much to me now. 7. Of all sports, why pick boxing? I wanted to do something intense. I like being able to come to the gym, break a sweat and forget about everything else for awhile
